GitHub announced public preview image generation in Copilot on October 28. A user can describe an image in a chat session, preview the result inline, and save it to the workspace.

Where it is available

  • The announcement names VS Code, the GitHub Copilot app, and Copilot CLI as supported clients.
  • The feature uses a dedicated image-generation model and is billed separately from the chat model through plan AI credits.
  • Organization and enterprise owners can disable the capability through model policies.

A visible “Made with AI” watermark is an optional setting and is off by default, according to the changelog.
