The React team announced React 19.3 on September 9, with View Transitions and Fragment Refs graduating from experimental APIs to stable features.

Transitions tied to UI updates

  • The ViewTransition component can animate elements entering, leaving, moving, or changing size.
  • Animations run for updates marked as transitions, rather than every urgent state change.
  • addTransitionType lets an application identify why an update happened, such as moving forward or backward through a carousel.

The release post also covers browser(), Trusted Types, and other changes. ViewTransition is currently for the DOM; verify the support and limitations described in the official documentation before using it in a cross-platform component.

When adopting motion features, keep reduced-motion preferences in mind and ensure the interface still communicates state when animation is disabled.
