Vercel updated the fx adapter for the AI SDK's HarnessAgent. The harness and model requests now run in the application process, while built-in filesystem and shell operations remain isolated in the sandbox.

Changes in the updated adapter

  • The new setup no longer needs fx installed in the sandbox or a sandbox bridge.
  • Model credentials stay on the host rather than in the environment where agent commands run.
  • The adapter adds built-in tool filtering, mid-turn steering, structured output, image tool results, and resumable sessions.

The changelog directs developers to update the @ai-sdk/harness-fx package and review the current fx harness documentation.

Before migrating an agent, verify which tools execute inside the sandbox and confirm that secrets are not exposed to subprocesses that do not need them.
