Vercel's October 29 changelog says its IP geolocation data now uses finer network granularity and refreshes more often. The company reports city-level data for nearly all requests and postal-code data for 90 percent of traffic.
Review decisions that depend on location
- The existing geolocation headers and helper keep the same fields, according to Vercel.
- Some visitors may resolve to a different city or country, especially traffic from VPNs, hosting providers, or leased IP ranges.
- Teams using location for access controls, localization, or compliance should test their assumptions against active network locations.
An IP address is not a reliable statement of a person's physical location. Use this data as an approximate signal, not as a sole identity or authorization check.
Read the request-header documentation and verify the behavior in the project's actual deployment before changing location-sensitive product flows.
