Safari Technology Preview 255 arrived October 22 for macOS Golden Gate and macOS Tahoe. The preview channel is where WebKit lands standards work weeks or months before a Safari release ships it, and 255 shows the pattern well.
Inside 255
- A button element is now supported in the native appearance of the select element, another step for customizable select.
- SVG textPath gained the side attribute, and the new inline layout engine is enabled for SVG text.
- A large batch of fixes; a theme through the list is the line-clamp work, with more than a dozen clamp-related corrections.
If you maintain an odd layout that fights the UA stylesheet, the preview is the honest place to test: file a bug while the code is still fresh and you shape the next stable instead of filing against last year's decision. Free for the taking, and gacor for standards watchers.
