Shipped October 7: the WebGPU update covering Chrome 155 and 156. The named additions are all graphics-engine parts: a WGSL fragment_depth extension, texture compression support that no longer needs alignment, srgb-linear and display-p3-linear color spaces, and an snorm10-10-10-2 vertex format.
Why a non-GPU site should still care
- Color spaces: linear variants exist so compositing and blending happen in physically sane light instead of gamma-warped values that look slightly wrong and are hard to debug.
- Texture compression without alignment: fewer bytes per surface, which is the same budget fight this site wages on its photos, one abstraction up.
- Every WebGPU gain eventually lands in the tools you do use: rendering paths, canvas performance, and whatever your embed widget of choice runs on.
You do not have to write shaders to benefit from traffic management: the roads your pixel traffic takes just got wider. gacor infrastructure.
If you do write shaders, read the source post first; each of the four additions has real API detail behind the one-line summary.
