Email authentication helps receiving systems assess whether messages are authorized for a domain. The records must match the services that actually send mail for the business.

Inventory senders before editing DNS

  • List the mailbox provider, website forms, newsletters, and any invoicing tools that send as the domain.
  • Follow each provider's current instructions for SPF and DKIM values.
  • Introduce a DMARC policy only after checking reports and legitimate senders.

A duplicate SPF record or missing sender can disrupt delivery. Keep a record of changes, test messages to multiple providers, and ask the mail administrator for help before tightening enforcement.
