A career change does not erase the skills you already use. The challenge is to connect those skills to the work of a developer and show that you can now build and maintain software.
Create a bridge between old and new work
- Identify useful experience such as communicating with users, documenting processes, or working with complex data.
- Build a small project that addresses a problem you understand from your previous field.
- Explain the technical choices and what you learned from feedback or testing.
Make the transition legible
Use a resume summary to state the role you are pursuing, then support it with projects and concrete skills. Do not present a short course as equivalent to professional experience; show what you can do with what you learned.
Choose a realistic next role and compare its requirements with your evidence. A transition is usually a series of steps, not a single portfolio launch that guarantees an offer.
