When someone shares a URL in a chat or social feed, the preview is assembled from page metadata. Open Graph tags make the intended title, summary, URL, and image explicit.

<meta property="og:type" content="article">
<meta property="og:title" content="The article title">
<meta property="og:description" content="A concise, accurate summary.">
<meta property="og:url" content="https://example.com/en/news/story/">
<meta property="og:image" content="https://example.com/og/story.png">

Make each preview specific

  • Use an absolute, publicly reachable image URL with dimensions suitable for a preview.
  • Match the metadata to the visible article and its canonical locale URL.
  • Do not use a generic image or a misleading description just to attract clicks.

Preview tools are caches

Social platforms cache previews, so a change may not appear immediately. Inspect the built page source first, then use the platform's official sharing debugger if the cached result is stale.

Open Graph improves how a page is represented when shared; it is not a ranking shortcut and does not guarantee a particular search snippet.
