Questions for an interviewer help you understand the role and show what information you need to make a decision. Prepare topics, then choose the questions that the conversation has not already answered.
Ask about the work, not just the perks
- What would the person in this role own during the first few months?
- How does the team review code and decide when a change is ready?
- How are priorities, on-call duties, and cross-team dependencies handled?
Make answers concrete
If you hear a broad phrase such as 'fast-paced' or 'high ownership,' ask for a recent example. You can also ask how feedback is given and what support exists when a project changes direction.
Avoid asking for information already stated clearly in the posting. Write down the answers after the interview and compare them with what matters to you in a workplace.
