A discontinued service page should not keep promising an offer that no longer exists. Decide whether the page still answers a useful question or whether visitors need a direct path to a replacement.

Choose the right end state

  • Keep the page and clearly mark it unavailable if its information remains useful.
  • Redirect to a close replacement only when it genuinely serves the same need.
  • Return a not-found response when there is no relevant alternative.

Update internal links and sitemap entries to match the decision. Avoid redirecting every old URL to the homepage, which can frustrate visitors and look like a soft 404.
