A backup has value only if the business can recover the files and data it needs. A completed backup report does not prove that the archive is complete or that the restore steps still work.

Practice recovery without overwriting production

  • Choose a representative backup and restore it to a separate environment.
  • Check the important pages, uploads, configuration, and data relationships.
  • Record the time required and the access needed to complete the restore.

Protect backups with access controls and a separate failure boundary from the live site. Repeat the test after major hosting or database changes, and document who can authorize recovery.
