When an interface shows stale or missing data, inspect the request that supplies it before editing the component. The Network panel records what the browser sent and what the server actually returned.
Follow one request end to end
- Filter by the API path, reproduce the action, and confirm whether a request was sent.
- Check the status, request method, query parameters, and response content type.
- Compare the timing phases and inspect the response body for a useful server error.
curl -i 'https://example.com/api/items'Separate common failure classes
A 4xx response usually points to the request or its permissions; a 5xx response points to server-side handling. A request blocked before an HTTP response may involve CORS, DNS, TLS, a browser extension, or a connection failure.
Redact cookies, authorization headers, and personal data before sharing a network capture. Confirm the fix by testing the same request in the browser, not only with a separate command-line client.
