Next 16.3 shipped Instant Navigations on June 25: a set of tools giving server-rendered apps the instant feel of a single-page app. The v0 case study later used exactly this machinery, and the revision story kept improving in 16.4.

The parts that move numbers

  • Prefetch locality: the pieces of the route the user will actually hit stay hot, instead of fetching everything blindly.
  • A faster dev server and builds more forgiving for AI agents that edit code.
  • import.meta.glob support, ending directory-walk import boilerplate for large static content sets.

If you export static HTML like this site does, the mental model still transfers: prefetch only the route a link genuinely leads to, and leave plain anchors alone. Measure before adopting; for our own pages, simple links won the numbers.
